Q&A’s about our Lyme Clinic, our patients & Coronavirus

Please note that this Q&A section will be continually updated in line with advice from the UK Government and the WHO. Therefore, we recommend that you keep rechecking this page or following our Facebook page @lymediseaseclinic to stay abreast of the latest information as it happens.

Is your clinic still open?

Yes, our London clinic is currently open to help existing and new patients with Lyme disease.

You can reach us by telephone or email during opening hours (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) and make a video conference appointment to speak to Dr Joshua Berkowitz. Call us on +44 (0)203 095 0009 or email info@lymediseaseclinic.co.uk and we will set up a video conference call.

Please note that these video conference calls are part of the current Coronavirus adaptations we have made to avoid seeing patients in person, thereby adhering the UK Government guidelines.

Lyme disease appointments are held on a Monday and Tuesday only.

Can I still come into your clinic for an appointment?

No, unfortunately our clinic on Wimpole Street is currently closed due to Covid19 coronavirus, but the good news is that we have moved to a remote way of working so that you can still ‘see’ a doctor via video conference.

Our decision to close our clinic was a tough one, but in line with current UK Government rules, we decided to close on March 23rd for an indefinite period as we felt that it was in the best interests of our patients, our staff and the general population to help prevent the spread of Covid19 coronavirus.

We are asking all new and existing patients to contact us and we will help you with options as to how we can support you during this period of UK-wide self-isolation.

Please call us on: +44 (0)203 095 0009 or email: info@lymediseaseclinic.co.uk during our hours of operation.

What if I am due for my next set of bloodwork soon?

Currently, we are still able to do your bloodwork and send it to the BCA-lab for testing as per our usual procedure. Results may take slightly longer than usual due to possible delays with borders and shipment but we currently still have access and support from the BCA-lab for all testing.

The challenge that we know many patients will face is the fact that we are the only clinic that can perform the specific blood tests you need to test accurately for Lyme and its co-infections. i.e. your GP or private NHS clinic will not be able to do these tests.

It is essential that that we do continue monitoring your bloodwork as this is what tells us whether you are on the right medication and dosage, and when we need to change your treatment protocol.

We are dealing with each patient on a case by case basis and if you are due soon for your blood tests, please call us +44 (0)203 095 0009 so we can advise you on next steps.

How do I pick up my medication or prescription renewals?

Medication: Do not let your medication run too low or run out completely, as we are finding some of our supply chain and delivery timings are slowing down as they become impacted by Covid19 coronavirus.

If you need us to send you more of your medication, MakeWell or any other product on your protocol programme you MUST email us your request to info@lymediseaseclinic.co.uk

Please DO NOT call us for your prescription renewal, as we need the full description by email of the medication you need so that we can pass on the request to the doctor.

We are limiting patients to what they need for the month ahead so that there is enough medication to go around. Where we are unable to provide you with the medication, we are providing you with a prescription (see prescription renewal info below).

Remember that to get better from Lyme you must follow the treatment protocol given to you by your doctor. Any medication that you allow to lapse will mean your body is not being supported in the best way to get better from this disease.

Regular blood tests and appointments combined with the right combination of medication taken regularly is where we see the best recovery results in our patients.

Prescription Renewals: We are still providing prescription renewals by post. You MUST email us at info@lymediseaseclinic.co.uk for ANY of your prescription renewals and we will send it to you so that you are able to fill it at your local pharmacist.

Please DO NOT call us for your prescription renewal, as we need the full description by email of the medication you need so that we can pass on the request to the doctor.

Our standard prescription renewal fee of £50 still applies. Once again, please be mindful that everything is slightly delayed at the moment including postal services, so plan in advance so that you don’t run out of medication.

Please note that if you aren’t having regular consultations and bloodwork checks we will be unable to renew your prescription. This is to ensure that what we are prescribing for you is safe for your body at that particular time, and that it is having the desired effect of improving your health.

Are you still accepting new patients?

Absolutely! We know that everything in the world feels upside down at the moment, but we also know that life still goes on and there are many of you out there with suspected Lyme disease and you want help to get well.

Our business is our passion. We do what we do because we believe in helping people get well from this terrible disease and this doesn’t stop despite Covid19.

Please call us and we will be happy to chat and register you as a patient in order to be seen by video conference with a doctor as soon as possible.

Where can I find out more information about how to look after myself during this Coronavirus outbreak?

Over the next few weeks, we are going to continue posting information about Lyme Disease and Coronavirus, both on this website and our facebook page so do keep checking back.

If you have Lyme Disease, then yes, you need to consider your immune system is not as strong as it probably once was. That said, there is no current evidence or information about the effect of Coronavirus on Lyme patients; it is simply too unknown at this point in time to advise you.

Your best precaution is to limit your contact with other people and follow the guidance from the UK government and the WHO.

A letter from Dr Josh about Coronavirus

As the situation regarding the Coronavirus / Covid19 develops, we wanted to let you know that here at the Lyme Disease Clinic, our team is continuing to monitor the situation closely.

My priority at all times is the health and safety of my patients and employees, and I am continually monitoring the advice from the UK Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

I therefore took the decision on March 23rd 2020 to close my clinic at 48 Wimpole Street, London whilst the UK undergoes a period of enforced self-isolation. I will reopen our doors when the UK government indicates that this virus is under control and I feel it is once again safe for my patients and staff.

Although our physical clinic is closed, we have opened an interim virtual clinic and are working daily to help all of those in need. I will continue to hold appointments on a Monday and Tuesday, but now it will be by video conference call. My team are rapidly bringing me into the 21st century!

Our telephone line is also open Monday to Friday 10am-4pm +44 (0) 203 095 0009 and you can continue to email us on: info@lymediseaseclinic.co.uk for help and advice.

I understand that many of our Lyme patients, will be concerned about a disruption in their treatment and monitoring. We are trying our best to maintain as many of the services as possible for you, but as you will have been hearing in the news, we are living in unprecedented times.

One of our challenges is that we are one of the only clinics in the UK to do the specific blood tests that are run by the BCA-lab to test whether you have Lyme disease and co-infections, as well as to monitor how you are improving once you are in our treatment programme. You need these blood tests so that we are able to determine whether you are on the right medication and dosage.

We are therefore dealing with each patient on a case by case basis, helping you all to maintain your current treatment protocol whilst adapting some of your programme if there is disruption due to Covid19.
